Effective January 1, 2022, Marici Thompson assumes the title of principal designate of St. Augustine's College. Prior to her appointment, she served as guidance counsellor for 19 years, and Spanish teacher for 15 years before that.
She addressed students and staff virtually during morning devotions on Thursday, January 6, 2022, the first day of classes.
Although she regrets having to begin her tenure while students are attending school virtually, she remains hopeful that in the not too distant future, hybrid learning will resume again.
Ms. Thompson urged students to make the best out of the situation and be grateful for the opportunity to attend school saying, "there are many students in this country and around the world, who have not attended school in almost two years."
Furthermore, she expressed gratitude to the teachers who she believes have given their all, alternating between virtual and hybrid learning. "I know you will continue to fight for our students to ensure their academic success," Ms. Thompson added.
She also spoke specifically to seniors encouraging them not to give up although they may feel tired and frustrated.
